Monster Black Ice

Monster lately has been putting out a number of drinks.  One of the newest I have been trying to track down is Monster Black Ice.  Luckily for me today I stumbled across a few cans.  Let's see if the newest Monster flavor will be a hit or miss.

The Look:  The color scheme on the can resembles the Monster Absolutely zero.  This is a good thing because I thought it was easily one of slickest looking Monster cans to date.  Monster Black Ice is a member of the Nitrous Technology family and comes in a resealable 12 oz can.  On the back of the can there is a passage about the inspiration for the flavor as well as a very cheesy slogan:
"Once you go Black (ice),
We know you'll be back!"
Like most Monster cans there is no caffeine content listed just an energy blend amount.  Killer looking can here and another one of my favorite Monster cans.

Taste:  One of the reasons I wanted to try this was because of the kick ass Black Ice Monster Slurpee that 7-11 carried at one time (I wish they would bring it back).  When I opened up the can I got the loud pop that is associated with the other flavors in the Monster Nitrous line.  I was greeted with a very nice berry scent as well as an overflow of foam from the drink (which I had to drink quickly to avoid a mess).  The flavor has a very sour berry taste first thing.  I can not pin point just one berry here I think it has handful of different berry flavors to give it the unique flavor.  Some people might be put off by the sourness but I happened to enjoy it quite a bit.  I greatly enjoyed this and it is probably my favorite sugar free Monster at the moment.

Does It Work:  Monster Black Ice is labeled as Extra Strength on the front of the can.  The 2600 mg of energy blend consist of taurine, panax ginseng, l-carnitine, caffeine (undisclosed amount), guarana, inositol, and a few other ingredients.  Along with the energy blend above there is also 200% of various B vitamins and of course 0 calories and 0 sugar.   I was feeling pretty tired before consuming the can.  After drinking down the Monster Black Ice, I rather quickly became filled with a surprising amount of energy.  I managed to finish wrapping Christmas presents, clean up around the house, and still had plenty of energy to spare.  For being only a 12 oz can, Black Ice easily delivered on par with it's bigger Monster "brothers".

Overall Thoughts:  I really hope that Monster can keep up the good work in 2011.  Between Monster Dub Edition and Monster Black Ice, my faith has been restored that Monster can create unique flavors still.  If you are able to find Black Ice, you should definitely pick one (or two) up.

I stumbled across them at a local gas station. It is locally owned. I usually never stop there but I needed gas and it holiday traffic was horrible.
I will be including one in the January Giveaway.

Although I have never tried this flavor, Monster tends to be an unhealthy way of obtaining energy. bHIP Energy Blend, however, contains natural ingredients that provide long lasting energy, without the any dose of caffeine.

I picked one up tonight at the 7-Eleven (Aurora, CO). Best Monster I've ever had, period. Maybe even the best energy drink I've ever had. I'm a frequent energy dring consumer and this one has me buzzing right now only 10 min after opening.

I'll echo the author's caution about foam overflow. Good thing it's sugar-free, because I'm wearing half an ounce of it.
