Sumseeds

Today I will be taking on another unique caffeinated item, caffeinated sunflower seeds.  You read that right, tasty sunflower seeds with a nice dose of caffeine added.  Here are a few things they have to say on the back of the package:

  • You can't pour a can of energy soda into your hand and look cool
  • You can't get 7g's of muscle-building protein from a can of energy soda
  •  You can't drink a can of energy soda and get natural vitamin E
  • You can't work on your 427 Cobra and spit energy soda
  • You can't play a monster bass and enjoy a can of energy soda at the same time
  •  You can't yell at the other team with a mouthful of energy soda

The Look:  Sumseeds Energized Sunflower Seeds come in a 1.75 oz plastic bag.  Depending on the flavor, the color of the packaging varies a bit.   They have a picture of Tony Gwynn on the front holding a bag of Sumseeds and they list the flavor in the little see through window on the front.   On the back they have the bullet point list I mentioned earlier and nutritional facts.  They did a bunch of things right on the package such as mentioning the amount of caffeine in the bag and making it very clear these are different than normal sunflowers seeds.  The only thing I would of liked to see was a resealable package in case you wanted to save some for later.

Taste:  I only tried two of the flavors: Original and Salt and Pepper.  According to their website they have two other flavors but I decided to pass on BBQ and Pickle.  The original taste just like any other sunflower seed with no sign of caffeine inside.  Salt and Pepper do not taste  much different but you get a nice little kick from the pepper afterwards.  If you like sunflower seeds you will really enjoy these.

Do They Work:  Sumseeds are powered by 160 calories, 12g of fat, 6g of carbs, 7g of protein, 140 mg of caffeine, taurine, lysine, and ginseng.  I didn't get a huge buzz from these (partially because it takes so long to eat them all) but I did get a nice little lift from them.  I can see where these would be great for taking on a hike, playng baseball, or a bunch of other outdoor activities.  I really like the concept of these and was impressed overall.

Overall Thoughts:  I love trying innovative products that push the limits of energy products.  I can easily recommend this product and suggest giving them a try.  If you love sunflower seeds and love energy drinks then now you can have the best of both worlds. I would like to say a big thanks to KingOfCaffeine.com for allowing me the opportunity to try these out.
